Design Maven Meri Goldstein: From Berlin to NYC, Crafting Infinite Interiors

Written by: James Carnell

Meri Goldstein was born and raised in Berlin, Germany, where she had the privilege of being exposed to the design world at an early age. Meri's father, a renowned lighting designer, brought his talent to an array of commercial design projects, including prestigious venues such as the Jewish Museum, the Sony Center, and even the new Berlin International Airport. As a child, Meri loved attending gallery events with her widely respected father and found it mesmerizing to watch him work on his architectural drawings and blueprints.

Although she had always felt a powerful pull towards creative work, Meri initially believed that studying business management was a more pragmatic path towards stability and security. However, she quickly realized her mistake and made the bold decision to not only follow her creative heart but also to follow it all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

Education First

In 2017, at only 22 years old, Meri moved to NYC to study at the New York School of Interior Design—one of the top-ranked interior design colleges in the entire US. Although she already possessed a strong creative voice, the program equipped her with the skills needed to succeed in the industry. During those years, she learned how to design furniture and create layout plans for spaces of all different sizes and shapes. She was exposed to various design styles and found particular inspiration during her semester-long study of Bauhaus.

Meri also recognized that in any creative industry, success depends not only on what you know but also on who you know. She actively engaged in social clubs and made it a priority to network with the high society of NYC. Simultaneously, as a new graduate, she took what she believed to be the next logical step and began applying to work with major design firms such as Pierre Yves Rochon, Korban Studio, and Rottet Studio. The interviews went well, and she even received some exciting job offers. However, unexpectedly, a new opportunity presented itself to Meri.

Most businesses typically launch and then engage in marketing and promotion to gain their first clients. But for Meri, the client came first. Nurturing her social connections paid off when she was approached to undertake her very first project. Although she was fresh out of school, the client recognized her unique talent, saw her immense potential, and trusted her sheer determination. That's how Infinite Interiors New York came to be.

A Business is Born: Infinite Interiors New York

Since its launch in 2022, Infinite Interiors New York has experienced a steady and organic flow of clients seeking out Meri Goldstein's design expertise. In a short span of time, Meri has quickly become one of the most influential designers in the Big Apple. New Yorkers have fallen in love with her unique blend of NYC modern elegance with a touch of minimalism, her incorporation of organic shapes and soft European textures, and her use of natural earthy color palettes. Drawing from her German roots and reflecting her generation's environmental concerns, Meri enjoys incorporating ethically and sustainably produced Scandinavian furniture into her designs. Vibrant colors, artwork, and finishing touches give her designs a youthful, fun, and fresh appeal.

Due to the rapid momentum of her business, Meri had to hire an assistant just five months after its inception. Currently juggling three projects simultaneously, she is thrilled to feel her creative juices flowing. The most substantial of these projects is a massive penthouse full-gut renovation for one of the biggest names in NYC real estate.

David Ash, founder of Prince Realty Advisors and current managing director of Walker & Dunlop's NY investment sales team, recently acquired a stunning 2,500 square foot condominium on the Upper East Side. The unit boasts breathtaking views of Central Park, the East River, and Billionaires' Row. With 12-foot ceilings, large floor-to-ceiling windows, and double balcony doors, the space is a designer's dream.

For this project, Meri serves not only as an interior designer but also as the lead for overall project management. The transformation from a two-bedroom to a three-bedroom layout involves significant structural modifications and the coordination of engineers, architects, and general contractors. To elevate the space, Meri is predominantly designing custom pieces. Examples include a custom fireplace wall with reeded wood panels and an antique mirrored shelf backsplash, a custom wet bar with a hammered brass sink, and even a custom gym and sauna space. Additionally, she is introducing a variety of beautiful stones from around the world to give each room its own elegant feature. This pristine penthouse condo will truly be one-of-a-kind!

In Conclusion

Now that Meri has garnered media attention and completed projects that speak for themselves, this young female interior designer is positioned to make a significant impact on the New York scene. When asked about her design process, Meri explains that she draws inspiration from designers she follows on social media but also loves revisiting her college campus to peruse their extensive collection of architectural and interior design history books.

"I enjoy going through those books and magazines and allowing myself to be inspired by past, present, and future design trends," says Meri. "Infinite Interiors New York provides a unique experience for every client, where we assess their needs and goals and tailor the experience to create a unique home. Hiring an interior designer offers a bespoke experience and an individual composition of furniture, materials, and art. It's a creative orchestration of multiple factors—fabric, furniture, lighting, etc.—that come together as one cohesive piece. Successfully combining all these aspects is an art."

Undoubtedly, Meri Goldstein is an artist. Her youthful and feminine style is both distinctive and inviting. With ongoing projects in NYC, Brooklyn, and New Jersey, her business is rapidly expanding, and she plans to hire more staff within the year. We eagerly await further achievements from this incredible talent!
